Crossfit Eastside-Seattle,Bellevue,Redmond..

Just had to revisit this picture. Carrie is just the best, she is the editor of the CrossFit Journal, and a coach at her gym along with Mike Street at CrossFit Eastside. A great friend to have, just don't get to spend enough time with her! For all of you who are here from the CrossFit main site...a few things. Thank you for your amazing comments...it was emotional to see the great responses. And yes, there were the negative ones that said I look like a man, and that I didn't win an Olympic medal because of bad genetics. Hmmmm...can't win em' all. If you get a chance got to crossfit.com and post your comment in response to the others. Be honest.

After your calendar, I have no doubt that you are very proud about your body.
I don’t buy it, but I am sure it is great.

I always liked the "Eva teaches kipping" video because it reveals more of your personality than the pictures or other videos posted on the site.

The video today reveals even more about the person that you are, and it makes me admire you even more. One of my goals for most of my life was to go to the Olympics, and I understand not achieving goals and how that feels. You really showed how you have taken life by the tail and achieved things on your terms as you have gotten older. There's something about people who don't look at themselves as washed up after 40, and that really inspires me to not consider myself too old to be active or to get into the best shape of my life.

Thank you for your example, for your strength, and for sharing yourself with the world...and thank you for finding more to thrive on than just male attention.

Wish me luck! I'm having shoulder surgery today. I can't wait to start to rehab it!

You made me proud to be a Crossfit woman today! This was the interview I had been wanting to see after some previous videos which focused less on females as athletes and their amazing performance in sports and Crossfit.

Your interview by another amazing female athlete, Nicole, was full of insight and honesty; it really gave me a sense of the pressures top notch athletes feel, and your advice on how to approach things that challenge us mentally and physically was spot on.

As for your physique - it's awesome! You are the epitome of a healthy, strong, accomplished woman.

What could you have done to medal in skiing?

What are you doing now to succeed at Oly lifting that you didn't do when you were a younger athelte.

I'm curious, because I'm always trying to figure out how to improve. Unfortunately I never had a coach like you.

Third, expecting "honest thoughts" from an internet board might be an exercise in futility. Okay, not entirely true, but I'll re-recite something I said about you on the main page a LOOONNNNG time ago (you may or may not remember - and I'm only slightly ashamed to be borrowing these lines, since he's one of the top 5 poets ever to use the English language):

I see that a lot of your workouts that you post on this blog are body weight only and can be done anywhere. Do you do these with your O-lifting? Do you ever do the crossfit.com wods or the santa cruz wods?

I think the comment about the bad genetics was actually an oblique joke referring back to Allison's rest day chatter where someone said she obviously didn't have the genetics to match your and Nicole and Annie's athletic accomplishments, no matter how hard she tried. I think there was a tongue in a cheek there.

You are a super person with a super attitude. A great inspiration in many ways

I found your blog through the crossfit main site. I'm very impressed with your physique, and I was disappointed with the negative comments on crossfit. Not only did I not agree with them, I found them disrespectfull.

Anyway, I did the workout today. As a newbie to crossfit, I like doing more of the body weight stuff as I build up.

I learned to kip thanks to the original video of you teaching it (posted on the mainpage a long time ago). Indirectly you've helped to help others also get their first pull ups and kips as well.

I'm now up and running as an affiliate and continuing to pass it on down.

How cool is that?!?

I've never met you and I have a random comment on the CrossFit page but just wanted to say: you're amazing. I have your calendar up on my bulletin board right next to my computer (so I see it every day) folded to the photo for September- I picked that lifting picture because it's inspiring!: you show intense strength, focus, and beauty.

I'm a young female at a mostly male military institution - and thanks to training w/ Coach Burgener when I was at RBVHS, I love lifting and now I love CrossFit. You are my role model as a hardcore strong woman (and I don't know many). I really hope I get to meet you someday and maybe sweat through a workout together (even though you'd totally kick my butt).

Wow Eva negativity toward you I just cant believe! I think you are gorg and the interview was so inspiring to see you as a real woman and then holding Annie's babe was so sweet! You are the real deal as I learned when I met you last summer in San Diego!

One day we will lift together (or I will stand in awe on the next platform with your numbers) as I am Olifting these days as opposed to doing the WODS! Who do you train with??

Eva-you and the women of Crossfit are truly the epitome of all things strong, feminine and beautiful- and also inspirational! as I posted on the main site, my 8 year-old son belongs to a junior ski race team and videos of you are often used for reference on technique and grace...the kids think you are the bomb and theire coaches last year have begun to use the Crossfit Kids sight for on/off season training program for the kids in the program-with staggering results(state champs,2-years running, several Section V high schoolers going up the ranks etc...) and as a dedicated crossfitter/single mom/business owner, I find your " Smile to yourself" attitude refreshing and inspirational-Thanks for all you do, and if I can EVER make it to a cert, I'll be first in line to shake your hand!!!

I'm pretty sure the "poor genetics" comment guy was joking too. He had a smiley at the end of the comment and what he said was so patently ridiculous I don't think he intended it to be taken seriously.

I enjoyed the interview for the same reasons already mentioned, it let me see more of your personality and I begin to see why everyone describes you as sweetheart.
Oops, sorry if that blows your badass rep. :-)

Hi Eva, I have pretty much the same question as 'The Pie ' had...Do you also reccommend doing the CF wod's as well as your own on the same day? I really like your bodyweight wod's and feel I can do both, but I would love your advice as to whether you may think it might be overtraining or is it just a matter of, if you can do it, then do it?

i think if you feel like you could do more after the wod...there is a problem. the wod should make you feel done for the day. these workouts on my blog are mainly for the cf traveller and the at home..."oops, the day is over and i didn't work out" situations.

Never posted here before, I wanted to tell you that whenever I watch videos of Crossfit workouts, my kids come over to watch. (boy / girl / boy - 2 / 5 /7). I think that it is great for all of them to see videos of you and all the other fantastic athletes that have videos up there. (I am actually in one of them!) They can see what is possible, and in my mind a better role model than most out there today. What you do is amazing, and I hope that some of your positive attitude and personality, which comes across in the videos, becomes a part of my kid's personalities, male or female.

And I do take them to a family crossfit class when I can!

I know it's a little late, but I wanted to share my appreciation for your videos, both the workouts and interviews alike.
I find that, through the community, Crossfit goes further than just improving ones' physical attributes and helps sharpen the mind and soften the heart. Thank you for your postings, whether they be a workout or a word of advice, that continue to be a source of influence for the community to draw from. Later in the same day's comments, the guy who made the "bad genetics" comment said this:
"Did you see the firestorm of post from last rest day? My post was entire tongue-in-cheek. I even had a smiley face at the end. But you were the only one that took the bait and responded. I was really just trying to use sarcasim to show the irony from last rest day vs. this rest day."

He also said some things in other comments that add to my growing opinion that the WOD comments are not worth reading any more. But the "insult" to Eva was definitely a joke.
There were several people being very rude to Eva, he wasn't one of them.

Those people are entitled to their opinion and prejudices, they are not entitled to air them in a way that is hurtful to someone who has only ever been well-mannered and gracious in her interaction with a great many people.

Now I'm mouthing off. Sorry, getting tired of rudeness being classed as "free speech". Must be getting old.

I love this photo! I love it because it captures the most important thing about CrossFit - not the hard work, or the physical pay-off, or the enormous feeling of health but the highest practical application of all of those things: FUN.

When I first found CF and still had my doubts, the fact that 'an Olympic skiier does it' leant the program an enormous amount of credibility and kept me reading.
